The Madras Office for Architects and Designers (MOAD) is a multidisciplinary design practice with expertise ranging from large-scale urban design to small-scale furniture design.
MOAD offers Architectural Design, Urban Design/ Master Planning, Interior Design, Architecture/ Urban research, Graphic Design, Installation Art and Set Design.
We believe Architecture and Design leaves a strong impact on our every day lives, so our work is a deep response to the social, environmental and cultural context. Our aim is to create societal value through design beyond brief and client.
Our design process focuses on craft, local skills combined with materials and technology leading to unique solutions specific to a context.
Our design philosophy is about identifying the underlying parameters that shapes a project and find a suitable form and organization that starts defining it.
Mahesh Radhakrishnan is the founding partner of The Madras Office for Architects and Designers.With 20 years of experience in critically understanding city, architecture and place making, His work is focused on design as a creative response to context and collaboration.
MOAD’s work is known for sensitive design, deep cultural influences, collaborative design approach, celebrating local materials and resources, and keen attention to detail.
Mahesh received his bachelor’s degree from NIT Tiruchirappalli and was a Research scholar at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in Germany. His past work experience include Adrian McGregor Associates, Sydney, Christopher Charles Benninger and Associates, Pune and C&T, Bangalore.
He has been a visiting faculty and juror at several architectural schools across India. He was closely associated with the postgraduate program at School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University, Chennai. He was a panelist at the Kurla Varkey Design Forum 2016 at Centre for Environment Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad.
Mahesh has an active interest in the role of design in society. He is a trustee of Chennai Architecture Foundation – CAF and an Associate of Urban Design Collective UDC, both, not for profit organizations promoting Architecture and sustainable urban practices respectively through advocacy and research.
