New Delhi, India, 2007
CLIENT: Carbon Accessories Ltd
AREA: 500 sq.ft
The last of the trilogy of retail containers for fashion accessories (refer carbon Eva and Carbon Banjara), Carbon store in Rajouri Garden is located on the third floor of a very large mall in Delhi. The store initially thought to be 15 ft high between the floor and ceiling ended up having 3 different heights between the front and the rear due to unplanned services. Connecting these three points and arriving at a ceiling made of three different folded planes provided a starting point for a retail experience in a wall less space. It was then a process of folding the planes of varying sizes to form a cave like structure made of Aluminum composite panels. The point of sale was the starting point of these folds and an extension of these made for counters on the remaining floor space. The point of sale was defined through a perfect geometry and treated black in contrast to the folding white planes. A grid of lighting was layered to reinforce the folding planes.
